Severus didn't truly have an answer to that. Personally, he thought Remus deserved to be loved and that he was no worse than most people Severus knew. Selfishness was something he possessed to a great extent himself, so why would he scorn it in others?

There was also the option that this other person would not be able to accept the terms, and then Severus would have Remus for himself. Or as much as he could, given the man's penchant for casual sex.
"Whether or not you deserve either of us is besides the point, and not something you can decide." He looked intently at Remus who was looking down, then reached up and cupped his face, turning it so Severus could look into his eyes. "You have me, as it is. Now it's up to you to make of it what you wish."
